My next review is CS Lewis on the Christian Life. I have become quite the Lewis fan recently, and I was excited for this book, even though I’m not a huge fan of the series. Fortunately, thanks to Joe Rigney, I had a great experience!
The purpose of the book is to take the reader through Lewis’s theology and beliefs. Rigney did a great job as far as I am concerned. There isn’t a whole lot of Narnia, because Rigney has a book on Lewis and Narnia! This was a great opportunity to see Lewis through his lesser known works.
What was awesome for myself, the last chapter discussed Till We Have Faces exclusively. Rigney showed Lewis’s other works in support of Orual’s story and how those ideas are weaved throughout.
Ultimately, I learned to have a greater appreciation for Lewis as a thinker, but also as a fellow saint. While Lewis has a few quirks and some controversial views, Rigney is helpful in putting those into context. It really was an enjoyable read, and definitely my favorite of the series!
I am giving CS Lewis on the Christian Life a 4.0 out of 5. I can’t wait to read more CS, especially re-attempting the rest of the space trilogy!
