I decided I needed to stop ignoring over 50 percent of the population, and read some female authors (other than JK Rowling). Jen Wilkin’s None Like Him was first up.
This book was an excellent read. Even though she was in deep theological waters, it felt like we were floating at the surface with how simple and sweet she made each of the 10 attributes of God feel. Her personality was real and refreshing and recognizable on each page.
I give this book 4/5 stars. I don’t know if the book will change your life, but I am sure that it will get you thinking about how the attributes of God affect your everyday life.
Quote from page 127: “In short, Samson used his God-given strength to imitate the Philistines rather than to overthrow them. He believes his strength to be the result of his obedience not to cut his hair. But he was wrong. It was, plain and simple, a gracious gift from God. Samson ends up blind and alone, drinking from the cup of powerlessness. In one final miraculous feat, he uses his restored strength to collapse a temple on his Philistine captors. The narrator reports with chilling finality that Samson killed more Philistines in his death than in his life. In other words, mighty Samson was more effective for God in his dying than in his living.”
